Do you use Office365 or Exchange Online for outbound SMTP?
A lot of our partners use Office365 Mailboxes for SMTP email for their bvoip phone system accounts.
If you do the following are powered by outbound smtp:
- Voicemail-to-email
- Email Alerts
- Quota Messages
- Welcome Emails
Well, it's time to find an alternative. Why? This month Microsoft is going to be disabling the following items this month that use "Basic Authentication":
- POP3
- IMAP4
- Remote PowerShell
- Exchange Web Services
- Office Address Book
- MAPI
- RPC
- ActiveSync
- SMTP Auth
From a bvoip perspective is there an option to use "Modern Authentication" for outbound SMTP? The answer is no not today. You should be thinking bigger on this topic too. Copier, Security Camera Systems, NAS Devices, and so on. Anything that you are using Microsoft Exchange Online SMTP for you probably need to make a move now!
