We get that customer's are picky at times causing you to try and make random changes to appease what may seem like basic requests. Here's the deal, if you go into a phone to make a minor change it may come back to bite you and here is why!
Manual Changes Are Not Scalable ... Especially Because..
- If there are mass changes that need to be done to correct things like Day Light Savings Time and you need to re-provision your devices those local changes will get wiped out
- If you need to factory reset a phone those local changes will get wiped out
- If you need to migrate to another server or PBX version your local changes will get wiped out
- If you need to do a mass firmware upgrade / downgrade that requires a new template base your local changes will get wiped out.
- If your phone is defective and needs to be replaced you need to manually re-create the local changes
The moral to this story is to find a way to make your changes at the template / provisioning level rather than short cut your way through which can result in TIME BURN!
